Addressing Plastic Pollution through a Circular Economy Approach

YSDC partnered in a project implemented by CANGO and funded by the UNDP SGP GEF. This project aimed to build the capacity of NGOs in Eswatini to access GEF SGP grants that address plastic pollution through a circular economy approach. The initiative has trained 20 NGOs, including youth organizations, on how to develop quality proposals, manage grants and projects, and conduct hands-on training with community members (including schools) on waste collection and the generation of products for income generation and organizational development. Additionally, the organization has implemented clean-up campaigns in collaboration with youth stakeholders to raise awareness about plastic pollution. A field day was also hosted to showcase information on circular economy practices and waste management.

Youth Climate Adaption Action Day

The organization in partnership with youth organizations in the climate change sector organised a youth climate change adaptation action activity at Boyane High School, a school for children and youth living with disabilities in a semi-rural township area. Students were encouraged to be champions of climate adaptation by planting trees, creating a more sustainable future for all even those who are usually left behind. The event also increased awareness of the importance of trees in climate adaptation among young people with disabilities and helped mitigate the effects of climate change around the school grounds by planting trees. Through a half-day workshop and presentations, the students were encouraged to play an active role in climate adaptation initiatives even in their communities and contribute towards the national and global decisions taken on climate adaptation. The event also engaged the public through social media and other channels to reach a wide audience.
